Fitting digital curve using circular arcs

چکیده
AIBtract--A smoothing procedure is proposed, where the Gaussian filter is used with an adaptive mechanism to suppress the noise effect and quantization error of a digital curve. Those points of the smoothed curve where curvature changes abruptly are detected as breakpoints. Circular arcs are suitably designed between breakpoints to fit the input curve. Experimental results indicate that our curve-fitting method provides good approximations of the input curves.

Robust Radial Distortion Estimation Using Good Circular Arcs
It is a common problem, radial distortion of off-theshelf cameras, especially those low-cost ones and wide-angle ones. And the most direct method to judge whether radial distortion occurs in an image is the straightness of those lines in the image, for the straight line in the image should be straight in the ideal image under the pin-hole camera model. In this paper, we present a new line-based...
متن کاملCircular spline fitting using an evolution process
We propose a new method to approximate a given set of ordered data points by a spatial circular spline curve. At first an initial circular spline curve is generated by biarc interpolation. Then an evolution process based on a least-squares approximation is applied to the curve. During the evolution process, the circular spline curve converges dynamically to a stable shape. Our method does not n...
متن کاملCharacterization of Curved Creases and Rulings: Design and Analysis of Lens Tessellations
We describe a general family of curved-crease folding tessellations consisting of a repeating “lens” motif formed by two convex curved arcs. The third author invented the first such design in 1992, when he made both a sketch of the crease pattern and a vinyl model (pictured below). Curve fitting suggests that this initial design used circular arcs. We show that in fact the curve can be chosen t...
متن کاملLeast squares fitting of circles and lines
We study theoretical and computational aspects of the least squares fit (LSF) of circles and circular arcs. First we discuss the existence and uniqueness of LSF and various parametrization schemes. Then we evaluate several popular circle fitting algorithms and propose a new one that surpasses the existing methods in reliability. We also discuss and compare direct (algebraic) circle fits.
متن کاملEfficient randomized algorithms for robust estimation of circular arcs and aligned ellipses
Fitting two-dimensional conic sections (e.g., circular and elliptical arcs) to a finite collection of points in the plane is an important problem in statistical estimation and has significant industrial applications. Recently there has been a great deal of interest in robust estimators, because of their lack of sensitivity to outlying data points. The basic measure of the robustness of an estim...
